Fortnite Chapter 7 Lag? Best Graphic Settings for High FPS on Low-End PC (2025)
The wait is over. Fortnite Chapter 7 has officially launched, bringing a massive new map, new mechanics, and better graphics.
But for us with budget gaming PCs or older laptops, "better graphics" usually means one thing: Lower FPS.
If your game feels choppy or stuttery after the update, don't uninstall just yet. The new engine update is heavy, but with the right tweaks, we can make it run smoothly. Here is the ultimate optimization guide for Chapter 7.
1. The "Secret" Performance Mode Settings
First, forget DX11 or DX12. If you are on a low-end GPU (GTX 1050 / Integrated Graphics), you MUST use Performance Mode.
Rendering Mode: Performance (Lower Graphical Fidelity).
View Distance: Medium (Don't set to Low, or you can't see enemies).
Textures: Low.
Meshes: Low (This is critical for Chapter 7 to reduce CPU load).
2. Disable "Cosmetic Streaming" (Important)
Epic Games added a feature that downloads skins while you play. This kills your ping and FPS.
Open Epic Games Launcher.
Click Library > ... on Fortnite > Options.
Uncheck "High Resolution Textures."
Check "Disable Cosmetic Streaming" (This downloads skins beforehand, so your PC doesn't lag mid-fight).
3. Windows Optimization
Settings inside the game aren't enough. You need to prep your Windows.
Game Mode: Turn ON.
Background Apps: Close Chrome and Discord (disable Hardware Acceleration).

4. Still Lagging? Try Lossless Scaling
If your GPU is just too old, you might need "fake frames." We tested a tool called Lossless Scaling that can double your FPS in almost any game.

Conclusion
Fortnite Chapter 7 is beautiful, but FPS wins fights. Use these settings to get that smooth 60+ FPS back and dominate the new island.
